Dry Skin vs Dehydrated Skin Explained | Noktéra

Dry Skin and Dehydrated Skin Are Not Twins

Dry skin lacks oil.
Dehydrated skin lacks water.

Simple in theory. Chaotic in practice.

You can have oily skin that feels painfully dehydrated. You can have dry skin that suddenly becomes reactive and congested. Skin speaks in contradictions sometimes.

Dry skin often appears flaky, rough, or fragile. Dehydrated skin tends to feel tight, tired, and strangely “creased,” even when oil is present.

The solution is not punishment.

Harsh cleansers and aggressive exfoliants often create the very texture people try to erase.

Instead:

  • Restore water with humectants
  • Support the lipid barrier with oils and balms
  • Reduce stripping ingredients
  • Protect skin from overexposure to heat and friction

Skin is not a battlefield.
It is an ecosystem.

Treat it accordingly.
